This Historic event brings HBCU football to Boston for the first time, uniting culture, community, and college athletics like never before.

This landmark event will feature a season-opening football matchup between Morehouse College and Johnson C. Smith University, marking the first HBCU Classic ever held in the city of Boston.

The ESSENCE Kickoff Classic represents a powerful intersection of culture, education, and athletics—offering a national stage to showcase the legacy, pride, and excellence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. At the core of this moment is the influence of Black women, who have long driven the legacy of HBCUs, strengthened family ties, and fueled progress in their communities.
